What's On

Join us Sunday 17th July

This years' Mela boasts some of the biggest names ever to appear in the city as part of the celebration of the city’s many cultures. Global acts will be joined by local talent across three stages and the whole of Kelvingrove Park to perform in front of tens of thousands of people.

Among the headline acts this year are Lehmber Hussainpuri whose classic song Das Jaa was named the third greatest UK Bhangra of all time by a panel of experts selected by the BBC Asian Network in 2014. He will be joined on the bill by Asad Abbas who was the first ever winner of the Pakistan Sangeet Icon (Pop Idol) competition, Circus Raj, a cast of dancers, illusionists, aerialists, acrobats and rope walkers, Jarrdu and his magic carpet and a welcome return to the Glasgow Mela for the Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band. All that plus the usual amazing taste bud tantalising global cuisine to whet your appetite!

Councillor Soryia Siddique, Chair of the Glasgow Mela steering group said:

“The Glasgow Mela is a celebration of our city’s rich diversity and all of its communities. We have been working hard since last year’s Mela to put together an outstanding line up worthy of an event that has grown to become an integral part of our cultural calendar. We are looking forward to an incredible event and to welcoming global artists to Glasgow to join local talent in entertaining the crowds.”

Mela 2016 is not to be missed - we'll see you Sunday 17 July in Kelvingrove Park.
