Visual Statement is a Glasgow dance company, based at East End arts venue The Bridge. They create productions, and offer a broad range of performance and a vibrant and uplifting focal point for the performing arts, dance in particular.
They will be performing ‘Woman’s World’ at Glasgow Mela, inspired by a Botswanan poem of the same name, which appears in the compilation River of Stories produced by the Commonwealth Education Trust . Using traditional Scottish contemporary dance and movement, and accompanied by Celtic music, song and narration, the dance interprets the women as they:
“collect water from the wells and rivers, talking ,laughing with oceans balanced on their head without a splash...”
Music and Gaelic song composed by William Jackson, entitled ‘Glasgow’
This performance is part of a trilogy which was recently performed for members of the Royal Family and Heads Of Commonwealth at Westminster Abbey.
